The NSW Independent Planning Commission has today approved the Burroway Solar Farm (SSD-55968733) located approximately 18km north of Narromine within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone in the Narromine Shire Council LGA.
Edify Energy Pty Ltd (Applicant) sought approval for the construction of a 100-megawatt solar farm and associated 100 MW/400 MW-hour battery energy storage system. The project also proposes temporary workers’ accommodation, a substation and connection to the existing 132 kV transmission line that traverses the site. A small subdivision is also proposed for the location of the substation.
This State significant development (SSD) application was referred to the NSW Independent Planning Commission for determination because more than 50 public objections were made to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure during its assessment period.
The two-member Panel, comprising Andrew Mills (Chair) and Sarah Dinning met with key stakeholders, conducted a site inspection and locality tour, and received 12 written submissions. The Commission scheduled local public consultation but received no registrations from the community to participate.
In its Statement of Reasons for Decision, the Commission found that the application was consistent with NSW Government policies, and its approval would be in the public interest. Construction is expected to create approximately 250 full time jobs and five ongoing operational jobs. It is also expected to generate enough renewable energy to power approximately 40,000 homes.
