Mike Smart

Mike Smart is an economist specialising in competition law, price regulation and licensing of essential services. He has been the Chief Economist of the NSW Indepndent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal since 2015. He has also served as a deputy Tribunal member.
Before commencing public service, he was a consulting economist in private practice for 15 years. In that role, he advised industry leading firms in telecommunications, rail, ports, logistics, gas, mining, electricity, aviation, payment systems and stock exchanges in Australia and New Zealand.
His academic training is in astrophysics and his early career work was in engineering and physical sciences.
