Overview

Proposed modification of the development consent for the open-air cargo storage facility on part of the former BHP steelworks site at Mayfield (Mayfield Cargo Storage Facility), seeking approval to amend conditions B9 and B10 to permit operation to occur on the already remediated portions of the expanded site following Site Auditor approval. The Applicant proposes that the currently uncapped area will remain un-remediated until it is more economic to remove the legacy Koppers Operational Area and remediate the uncapped area. The proposed modification is required due to growth in the Port of Newcastle’s freight storage needs.
